I was lucky enough to be able to go to France twice in my life. I'd love to go back sometime, but I'm glad I was able to go the times I did. The first time I went with a school group in the summer between my freshman and sophomore years of high school. It was a fantastic trip, but mostly consisted of scripted tours of historical locations. The second time I went, I was invited to stay with a friend and her aunt - who had an apartment in Juan Les Pins near Nice. I had a marvelous time with my friend Caroline shopping at the market, taking the train to Fragonard to smell perfumes, and going to all the little shops around town. I especially loved all the hole in the wall bookstores and fabric shops. One of my favorite pieces of fabric ever is a woven piece of tapestry I bought in the back room of a cluttered textiles shop in Grasse. I have it on my wall and I've thought about cutting it up into other projects so many times, but I can't bring myself to do it. I love it as it is.

Thats a long way of leading into the fact that I finished sewing up and ironing my triangle squares for the place mats and the colors really remind me of Provence. I was drawn to this crazy orange brick colored cotton at the fabric store - its a color I normally wouldn't like, but it called to me and I think it works really well with the turquoise prints I've chose to pair it with. I'm normally a print person with the occasional tonal print as filler, but Red Pepper Quilts does an amazing job of using neutrals to make her patterns and prints pop and I was inspired! I'll update more on these hopefully tomorrow, but for now just enjoy my crazy fabric choices!
